Do you remember Medusa, the snake-haired creature of Greek mythology,
who could turn men to stone with a single look?
Look closely. Does she look familiar?

This is me.
This is my hair.
This is my hair on a bad hair day.
This is today.
A bad hair day.
shirt -- Liz Claiborne Lizwear Jeans
skirt -- don't know (thrifted)
tights -- xHilaration (Target)
shoes -- Blowfish (DSW)
The Medusa Look is what I call a bad hair day -- when you feel like your hair is out of control, and you can't do anything with it -- as if it has snakes, all of which have a mind of their own. When I have a frizzy halo, and there is no rhyme or reason to the flips and curls, and there is nothing that I can do to make my hair lie flat or do what I want it to do.
I usually get the Medusa Look after taking a shower -- no matter what the weather is. So even though it rained cats and dogs today, I can't blame the Medusa Look on the weather. No, I'm one of the lucky ones -- I get the Medusa Look on any day of the year, and pretty much every day.
Seriously, the similarity is striking, wouldn't you agree?
Growing up, I always hated my hair. Now that I have matured
I love the color of my hair (strawberry blonde). I hate the color that my hair is turning (white).
I love my curly hair. I hate that my hair isn't straight.
I love having short hair. I hate that long hair is a PITA.
I love that I have thick hair. I hate that I have so much hair.
My list goes on (and on), but I think you get the picture --
the Medusa Look -- we all have days like this.
The necklace was a loan from my daughter -- she won it from a blog giveaway.
My pin is another thrifted goodie.
I thought that my necklace and pin matched the print in my skirt really well.
And last, but not least, my shoes
I love, love, love the skirt and the overall look is very sharp. I think I like it best with the skinny belt.
ReplyDeleteI actually LIKE your hair, but that is probably because my own hair is straight to wavy...and it seems that with hair we always crave what we don't have ourselves. I've actually been pondering a perm, come September, so that I could wear my hair in a curly bob.
Thanks Terri! It is actually the same belt -- but it has four chains in the back, and only one in the front. My hair ... a never-ending battle. I finally broke down and got a flat iron this year, and I have been using that in this process of rediscovery and reflection. I really do have this love/hate relationship with my hair, so I need to play around with my hair and so it is easier for me to embrace, you know? So, i would say -- go for the perm (find a beauty school in your area -- they are super cheap :-)
ReplyDeleteThat skirt is gorgeous and I love your jewellery!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how we (women) can be about our hair, isn't it? My hair is quite different from yours, but I have kind of the same love / hate kind of thing going on with it: i love that it is smooth and shiny, but I hate that it is flat and too smooth to hold and style with curls and volume.
I assure you I haven't turned to stone from seeing your hair ;-)
ReplyDeleteMy sister and I have a name for our bad hair days...I'll have to write about it someday. It's kind of hard to explain in a comment.
Great outfit, Kari! I love the accessories and how nicely they go with the skirt. And love the shoes!
ReplyDeleteI like your hair - it has a nice wildness about it. I would say just go with the natural texture you have and embrace it!
Thank you so much for commenting on my blog. :) I really appreciate it.
Cheers,
Sheila
Me likey that pin!!
ReplyDeleteFab boots! Embrace the wild hair. Toss some gel or texture paste in it while damp and let the curls and waves fly.
ReplyDeleteIt's taken me some time to appreciate my hair texture, but I'm learning to work with it instead of attacking with the flat iron. At least all of yours seems to curl. Mine is half and half.
I have hair that reacts to humidity so I know just what you are saying.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever tried Blown Away 09 by
Redkin? It works wonders for me.
That skirt is just too cute!
