Not to Work

No. I didn't wear this to work ...

jacket —Old Navy (thrifted)
shirt — Old Navy (Old Navy)
skirt — Moda (Victoria's Secrets)
boots — Chinese Laundry (DSW)

But I was thinking of it... (OMG! What *was* I thinking?!) If I did wear it to work, I would've been very visible ... a bit too visible, if you ask me. The boots were a little WAY too much, so I tried switching them out for my Danskos. Unfortunately, they didn't help. Something was really weird about the proportions or the colors (the tights and boots are too dark?). Something's wrong somewhere!

I was actually kind of bummed. Do you see the great big grin on my face? I was thinking it was this great outfit, and that I had nailed it. But it just didn't pan out. It didn't look the same in real life as it did in my head. Oh well. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I actually do love rouched skirts and dresses. They are so totally forgiving, except for when you don't pull the rouching up, and it ends up giving you a saggy baggy b*tt ... Stay tuned to see what I ended up wearing to work.

  1. I love the tall boots, but I agree, they might be "too much" with the detailed skirt - the second pair looks perfect! I often have a much better outfit in my head than in reality, and have to swap things out in the morning : >

    1. I was really surprised to see how *bad* this really was. Oh well, at least I tried (I didn't succeed, but I did try ...). That counts for something, right?

  2. Hmm...not feelin the shirt. The skirt seems a little dressier (although you look GREAT in it)...love the boots and dark stockings...jacket seems too casual for the skirt...not crisp enough for it. (are you sorry you asked???lol)

    1. Yes. I am glad! Seriously. I did like the shirt, that was the one part that I did like with it. I think that you're right about the jacket being too casual (I was trying to tone it down). Overall, I think it was just a hot mess! LOL.

  3. Someone one commented (not to kindly) that my black shoes cut off my legs. I was't happy about the comment but alas, she was right and now I rarely wear dark shoes without matching tights..
I thing maybe the same thing is happening with your skirt. Not sure but maybe it's kind of cutting you in half. But, what the heck do I know I make mistakes daily and rely on OTD photos to learn as I go.

  4. My best advice is to try a less structured blouse and/or leave it untucked. The shorter boots do suit the look better because they're not fighting with the hem line of the skirt. However I think it is a good look in theory, but with some tweaking I think will hit the sweet spot you're looking for.
